About Rev. Mary B. O'Malley, MD, PhD
I am a physician specializing in Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine. I have an MD from the Weill Cornell University Medical College and a PhD in Neurobiology from The Rockefeller University and spent several years doing clinical research in Sleep Medicine along with my clinical practices. Throughout my career, in various locations, I have taught physicians, nurses, medical students and staff about psychiatry, sleep medicine, spirituality and ethics.
In my psychiatric practice, I use an integrative approach to care, combining complementary modalities such as mindfulness, sound healing, and a variety of body-centered practices along with standard allopathic medicine. It is all part of what I consider "Good medicine". As a physician scientist, I have learned to apply both the lens of reason and of intuitive knowing in my observations and work with others. As a human being, I found the widest lens for both reason and intuition emerge when including the teachings and practices of the spiritual traditions, so I became an Interfaith Minister as part of my path. Several spontaneous, mystical experiences in my life led me to discover the power of making sound for myself and others, and so in 2010 I began my formal training as a Sound Healer. I am deeply grateful for the training I have received from a number of Sound Healing teachers including Tom Kenyon, Shulamit Elson and Amy McTear.
My calling both as a physician and a Sound healer is centered in the deep faith that we each draw upon our own innate healing resources to continue our movement toward greater health and well-being. Making sound for myself and for others has brought me a great respect for the power of the word and sound to help catalyze this process. Sharing the sound feeds my spirit, and I hope yours too!
