About the star:
Polaris, also designated Alpha Ursae Minoris (α Ursae Minoris) is commonly known as our North Star or Pole Star. It is the brightest star in the constellation of Ursa Minor. It is currently very close to the north celestial pole (the Earth's axis about which all stars appear to revolve in the sky). making it the current northern pole star. Because of it's nearness to the north celestial pole, it is nearly motionless in the sky and so has been used for millenia as navigational aid to find 'true north'.
